Although February is already 13 days old, I didn't want to break my tradition of sharing a calendar with you. So here it is for February's other, hopefully better half.

Winter Colours // Sacrow

There are these winter days when you just want to put on an extra layer of clothes and get out into the freezing sunshine, listen to the ice crackling and the dry snow crunching under your boots while you wander around with red cheeks and a cold nose. Yesterday was such a day. A day to take the camera and a friend and get out of Berlin. We decided to visit Sacrow, a village near Potsdam that has a little park and in it a beautiful small church built in Italian style at the banks of the river Havel. Due to the freezing cold we were the almost only visitors and the whole place was absorbed in the calmness of winter.

Usedom // Winter at the Baltic Sea

These pictures are of last January from a trip to Usedom, an isle in the Baltic Sea. There is something very beautiful and even mystical about the sea in winter. The places are like in a deep sleep with the season still far away and only a few tourists in the streets, the sound of the restless waves their constant companion. It's grey and windy and cold and wet - perfect for long walks along the beach, the wind clearing the mind and the thoughts free for wandering.

Winter Wonderland

Before saying goodbye to 2014, here are some pictures of the first and the last snow of this year. That is what Berlin looked like on Monday: white and magical. Like an oversized playground (as if playgrounds can be oversized... ). There was no going home at sunset, children were going up and down on every little hill they could found and at the bank of the Lietzensee people were strolling, holding hands or walking their dogs or just taking in all the winter's beauty.

The Magic of a December's Night

Nobody else in the street. No sounds. Just the crunch of snow under our feet.

On our right side the illuminated windows. On our left the enchanted and mystic darkness of the garden realm that surrounds my little home town.
